A classic of children’s literature this pirate adventure novel by Robert Louis Stevenson first appeared in 1881-2 in the children’s magazine “Young Folks”. The text was revised by Stevenson and then published in book form by Cassell and Company in 1883.
Macmillan published the book with illustrations by Henry Matthew Brock (1875-1960) in 1928 in their ‘Illustrated Pocket Classics’ series. This copy a 1942 reprint in their “Cottage Library” series.

Hardback – title to spine and blind design to front board, in a dustwrapper. pp ix, 239, plus b/w illustrations. 7 x 4.75 inches approx. (178mm x 120mm).
Dustwrapper worn and rubbed, a few short edge tears and creasing; small loss to spine ends and corner tips; somewhat dusty/grubby and discoloured, especially to spine; heavily foxed/spotted to rear panel. Spine and boards a little dusty and spotted but generally clean; spine slightly cocked; some minor bumping to spine ends and corner tips. An ownership inscription in ink to upper corner of front free endpaper; pages a little dusty and marked in places, some age toning, but otherwise generally clean throughout.
Overall, showing some light wear but remaining a reasonably nice, clean copy – attractive in its dustwrapper.
