Through the Looking-Glass – And What Alice Found There
by Lewis Carroll, illustrated by John Tenniel
Macmillan and Co. Limited, [reprint] 1962
The People’s Edition* of ‘Through the Looking-Glass’ (1872) was originally published in 1887 and with many subsequent printings since then, this copy being a 1962 printing.
Hardback in dustwrapper. Publisher’s green cloth with title to spine and front board; illustrated to front board in black and red, publisher’s emblem to rear board. pp [12], [1]-208-[211], [1] colophon, including b/w illustrations. Size: 7.5 x 5 inches approx. (189mm x 128mm).
Dustwrapper torn to upper spine; wear and rubbing, especially to spine ends and corner tips with small loss; somewhat grubby and marked; surface abrasion/loss to upper right corner of front panel where a sticky label has been removed (blends in well and not readily apparent). Cloth clean and bright; boards lightly knocked to corners. Inscription in ink to front free endpaper; edges of page-block dusty and spotted/foxed with some encroachment on to page margins but otherwise pages generally very clean throughout; two pages heavily creased to fore-edge (see image below).
Overall, showing some wear, especially to dustwrapper, but otherwise a nice, clean copy – attractive.
