This romance story originally serialised in The New Review (April – December 1890), then being published in book form by Longmans, Green & Co. (1890). An illustrated edition by Maurice Greiffenhagen with a new preface by Haggard and Lang was published by Longmans in 1894.
This copy being a later printing of the 1894 edition and issued in the series ‘The Romances of H. Rider Haggard’; also uniform with ‘The Novels of H. Rider Haggard’ series.
Hardback. Publisher’s orange cloth with title in black to spine. In a dustwrapper. pp xvi, 316, [2] plus b/w plates. Size: 7.5 x 5.25 inches approx. (190mm x 131mm).
Dustwrapper worn and rubbed, especially to spine ends and corner tips; grubby/dusty to spine and folds, grubby mark to rear panel; somewhat sunned/faded. Cloth clean and bright; light shelf wear to spine ends and corner tips. Some dustiness to pages but generally clean throughout.
Overall, light wear but otherwise a nice, clean copy – uncommon in dustwrapper.
