The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley (Raphael Tuck, 1915) illustrated by Mabel Lucie Attwell

The Water-Babies

by Charles Kingsley, edited by Capt. Edric Vredemburg
Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd, [1915]

First publication of the Mabel Lucie Attwell illustrated edition with twelve colour plates.

Hardback – publisher’s cloth binding with attractive picture to front; top edge gilt. 144pp including b/w illustrations plus 12 colour plates. 9.75 x 7.5 inches approx.

Covers showing light wear and rubbing to extremities; a touch grubby and marked in places; some dulling/fading to spine. Heavy offsetting and foxing to front and rear free endpapers; a previous owner’s name and date in ink to front paste-down; inner hinge to front endpaper splitting; ink splodge to fore-edge of page-block which encroaches slightly into page margin; occasional foxing and grubby marks/stains throughout but generally pages clean EXCEPT an ink splash and subsequent attempted removal has resulted in damaged surface to a page.

Nonetheless, showing some faults but overall a reasonably nice copy of the more uncommon pictorial cloth binding edition of this title.
