This title first published in the US by Scribners in 1952, the UK edition being published the same year by Jonathan Cape. The illustrated edition published by The Reprint Society in 1953 unusually pre-dated Cape’s illustrated version of the same by two years (1955).

Hardback. Publisher’s turquoise cloth with title on blocked red panel to spine and decoration to front board; illustrated endpapers; top edge of page-block tinted red. In a dustwrapper with lettering in red and green; illustrated to front and rear panels. 117pp including b/w illustrations. Size: 8.75 x 6.25 inches approx. (221mm x 156mm).

Dustwrapper slightly worn and rubbed to spine ends and corner tips; a couple of short edge tears and scratching, with some creasing and some small surface loss from abrasion, to bottom edge of rear panel; a little dusty and marked in places. Cloth clean and bright; light bump to head of spine; corners to boards a little turned-in. Occasional foxing or dustiness but generally pages very clean throughout; light spotting to fore-edge of page-block.

Overall, showing some light wear but otherwise a nice, clean copy – presents very well.
