The Decameron (Folio Society, 1969) Two Volumes Leather
The Decameron of Giovanni Boccaccio
translated by Richard Aldington, with aquatints by [John] Buckland-Wright
The Folio Society, second edition (reset) 1969
Originally published by The Folio Society as separate volumes (with dustwrappers) in 1954 and 1955, this 1969 second edition was published as two volumes with slipcase. In addition to the standard buckram bindings some copies were sold with a special binding of full cream leather and Cockerell marbled endpapers.*
Full leather bindings with gilt titles to spines and gilt design to boards; page-block with top edge gilt; marbled endpapers. Lacking the original slipcase, the two volumes now housed in a brown buckram custom-made slipcase. 394pp + 324pp including b/w plates. 10 x 6.25 inches approx. (253mm x 160mm).
Leather bindings with the occasional mark or scuff; slightly sunned/faded to spines. No bookplates or ownership inscriptions.
Overall, light wear but otherwise in nice, clean condition – quite lovely, and uncommon in the special binding.
