The Britain of Brian Cook by Brian Cook Batsford (B. T. Batsford, 1st edition 1987)
The Britain of Brian Cook
by Brian Cook Batsford, foreword by Sir Hugh Casson and preface by Ian Logan
B. T. Batsford Ltd, 1st edition 1987
Useful reference for collectors of the Brian Cook designed Batsfords. This copy a 1987 first edition and much more desirable than the later ‘cut-down’ reprints.
Inscription by Brian Cook Batsford in blue ink to front free endpaper reads –
To Thelma | whose memories go back | longer than most and with | ever grateful thanks for | her loyalty. | Brian 27 Oct 1987
Unfortunately no provenance however from examples of Brian Batsford’s signature seen, and the sentiment of the message to a colleague or employee, I have no doubts as to authenticity.
Hardback in dustwrapper. 144pp including b/w and colour illustrations. Size: 8 x 10 inches approx. (205mm x 255mm).
Light wear and rubbing to dustwrapper; sunned and toned, especially to upper spine; a little dusty and marked in places; some tanning to verso. Boards and spine showing a little shelf wear to extremities; some sunning/fading especially to top edges of boards. Endpapers sunned to top edges; page-block bumped at upper spine although this doesn’t really show externally in the boards or spine.
Overall, some light wear and showing the sunning/fading which is common with this book but otherwise a nice, clean copy.
