Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam (Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co. Ltd, 1912) illustrated by Mabel Eardley-Wilmot
Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám
rendered into English Verse by Edward Fitzgerald
illustrated by Mabel Eardley-Wilmot
Kegan Paul, Trench, Trübner & Co. Ltd., 1912
This edition with thirty-eight pictures from photographs by Mabel Eardley-Wilmot and page decorations by W. G. Johnson was first published in 1912. Originally issued in a decorated cloth binding, this copy having been nicely re-bound in half-leather. There is no indication as to the binder or when it was bound. The offsetting to the preliminaries and final pages mirroring the leather edges would seem to indicate a binding of some age.
Hardback – half-leather binding with gilt title and decoration to spine, paper boards, marbled endpapers, housed in a custom slipcase. pp. xix, [124] with b/w illustrations. 10.25 x 7.75 inches approx. (262mm x 197mm).
Leather binding a touch sunned/faded to spine. Offsetting to preliminaries and final pages; occasional foxing and dustiness throughout but generally pages clean; some dampstaining to lower margin of several pages but not distracting; tanning to page edges.
Nonetheless, a nicely presented copy – quite lovely.
