Described on the dustwrapper as ‘…thoroughly revised [and] the outcome of over half a century of continuous labour…’.

Hardback in dustwrapper, cloth boards with contrasting gilt cloth spine. (endpaper adverts), 896pp, 8pp (adverts), (endpaper adverts), plus b/w and colour plates. 8.25 x 5.75 inches approx. (206mm x 144mm).

Dustwrapper a little rubbed and worn, with some foxing and grubbiness; wear to corner tips and spine ends; some staining to head of spine (mainly visible from reverse side); occasional short edge tear. Boards and spine clean and bright with just light rubbing to corners; page-block edges dusty, very spotted with some encroachment into page margins; foxing throughout, especially to plates, but text pages generally clean.

Nonetheless, a particularly well preserved example and unusual to find with its attractive dustwrapper – quite lovely.
