Love Walter de la Mare (Faber, 1st edition 1943) decorations by Barnett Freedman with dustwrapper
Love
Walter de la Mare
Faber and Faber Limited, 1st edition 1943
An ‘anthology’ of poetry on the theme of love compiled and with commentary by de al Mare, with decorations by Barnett Freedman.
Hardback – publisher’s cloth with decoration to spine and front board, in price-clipped dustwrapper with over-printed price of 25s [shillings] net. cxliv, 592pp including b/w illustrations plus colour frontispiece. 9 x 5.75 inches approx. (225mm x 147mm).
Dustwrapper thin wartime paper stock and somewhat creased and worn, especially to spine; dusty in places; a few short edge tears; all corners clipped (presumably to neaten after being price-clipped) otherwise remarkably complete. Covers a touch dusty to edges; boards a touch knocked to corners, spine ends turned in slightly. Occasional foxing to pages however generally very clean, with just the odd crease and handling mark.
Nonetheless, a particularly well preserved copy – very attractive in its Barnett Freedman dustwrapper.
