Holy Bible (Cambridge, 1898) Full Leather Binding
The Holy Bible containing the Old and New Testaments
Cambridge University Press, 1898
Printed by J. and C. F. Clay
The Revised version of the Authorised Version of the Bible, with marginal notes (preface dated May, 1898). Not in Herbert* however [2075] comes closest but without the Apocrypha and map index. Appears to be complete as is.
Later (possibly late 20th Century) binding in full leather, raised bands to spine, rectangular and cross design in gilt and blind rules, gilt rule to board edges, blind and gilt rules to inside covers, page-block with all edges gilt and with marbling applied. No identifying binder’s label or stamp but likely by a competent amateur binder.
Hardback – full leather binding. pp [4] blank, xvi, 732, xv, 224, 6 maps, [4] blank. 8.5 x 6 inches approx. (216mm x 150mm).
Binding in nice condition with very little wear evident; a touch of sunning/fade to spine; boards a touch bowed. Endpapers dusty; inscription in ink to half-title; pages a little dusty, some toning and occasional foxing but generally clean throughout.
Overall, a handsome binding.
