Folklore Myths and Legends of Britain (Reader’s Digest, 1973)
Folklore Myths and Legends of Britain
Reader’s Digest Association Limited, 1st edition 1973
A comprehensive look at the folklore and legends of Britain with good coverage of the places of interest.
Originally published in 1973 and with a second edition in 1977, this ever popular book was available from The Reader’s Digest via mail order. Copies found with a dustwrapper were, it’s my understanding, distributed and sold through bookshops.
Hardback in dustwrapper (Hodder & Stoughton imprint with £6.50 price). 552pp including b/w and colour illustrations. Size: 11.25 x 6.75 inches approx. (287mm x 174mm).
Dustwrapper worn with tears and creasing to top and bottom edges, especially around spine ends and corner tips; large vertical scratch to rear panel; poorly placed around book with consequential off centred title to spine; creased to flaps; foxing visible to verso. Some bruising and wear to spine ends, snagged and split to head of spine; light wear from use to spine joints but still holding well; light marking to boards but generally cloth and gilt clean and bright. An inscription in ink to front free endpaper; light foxing to preliminary pages but generally clean throughout; edges of page block spotted/foxed with some occasional encroachment on to page.
Overall, showing some age-related and handling wear from being read but otherwise remaining a reasonably nice copy.
