England Under Trust by J. Dixon-Scott (Alexander Maclehose, 1937) dustwrapper by Brian Cook A. & C. Black
England Under Trust
J. Dixon-Scott
Alexander Maclehose & Co., 1st edition 1937
National Trust properties in England and Wales, illustrated with b/w photographic images.
Although published by Alexander Maclehose in 1937 this copy has a Brian Cook designed dustwrapper with the A. & C. Black imprint to tail of spine. My understanding is A. & C. Black took on several of Maclehose’s titles* in the late 1930s and re-jacketed them. The companion book ‘Scotland Under Trust’ by Robert Hurd (also with a Brian Cook dustwrapper) was published by A. & C. Black in 1939.
Hardback – publisher’s pale green cloth with title lettering in blue to spine and front board, in a dustwrapper. pp xx, 339 including b/w plates, [1] colophon, [1] publisher’s list, [3] blank. Size: 8.5 x 6.25 inches approx. (215mm x 155mm).
Dustwrapper rubbed and worn to folds and extremities, especially top edge; wear to spine ends; a little dusty and discoloured; light sunning to spine. Cloth clean and bright. Pages a touch dusty but generally very clean throughout.
Overall, a nice, clean copy – attractive in its Brian Cook dustwrapper.
