by H. J. Massingham, illustrated by Thomas Hennell
B. T. Batsford Ltd, 1st edition Autumn 1940
A volume in Batsford’s ‘The Face of Britain’ series.
Lovely dustwrapper art by Brian Cook.
Hardback – publisher’s orange cloth with titles to spine and front board, top edge of page-block stained orange, in a dustwrapper. pp viii, 120, including b/w line drawings plus colour frontispeice and b/w plates, map endpapers. 8.5 x 5.75 inches approx. (217mm x 144mm).
Light wear and rubbing to dustwrapper; sunned/faded to spine; light foxing. Cloth clean and bright. Light foxing and offsetting to endpapers; foxing to edges of page-block; pages with occasional foxing but generally clean throughout.
Overall, sunning to dustwrapper spine but otherwise a particularly clean, fresh copy – quite lovely.
