Around Theatres
Max Beerbohm
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1930
A selection of theatrical reviews by humourist and drama critic Max Beerbohm and originally published 1898-1910 in The Saturday Review, this collection being first published as a limited edition in 1924 by London publisher William Heinemann.
Two volumes in a recent fine binding by T. Lloyd (with binder’s ink stamp to upper edge of rear free endpaper in each volume).
Hardbacks – half-leather with title and decoration in gilt to spine and with marbled paper sides. pp [14], [1]-380; [12], 381-749, xiii (index), colophon. Size: 9 x 6 inches approx. (227mm x 152mm).
Binding appears recently done with no discernible wear. Pages age toned throughout with occasional grubbiness or mark; a previous owner’s pencilled annotation and ink stamped number in each volume (see images); an occasional tear to rough cut page edges; dusty/grubby to top edge of page-block.
Overall, a handsome set in the fine binding – lovely.
