Endpapers and title-page/dustwrapper devices by Eric Ravillious.
Hardback – publisher’s cloth with gilt title to spines, blind device to front boards, decorated endpapers, in dustwrappers. pp x, 427, 8 (publisher’s catalogue) + [8], 360. Size: 7 x 4.5 inches approx. (174mm x 110mm).
Dustwrappers worn and rubbed, especially to spine ends and corner tips; a few short edge tears and nicks with some resultant creasing and wear; a closed tear to bottom edge of rear panel vol. one; light foxing and toning; some dustiness. Light wear to covers at extremities; cloth clean and bright. A name in ink to each front free endpaper; toned and spotted to edges of page-block; pages generally clean throughout.
Overall, showing some light wear but otherwise particularly nice, clean copies – a lovely set.
