Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

Lewis Carroll
illustrated by Bessie Pease [Gutmann]
J. Coker & Co. Ltd, [No Date] circa 1930

Another nice Bessie Pease illustrated edition of ‘Alice’, with page embellishments by G. P. Micklewright (1893 – 1951). A larger format than Harrap’s earlier Pease illustrated edition, this not dated but circa 1930.

Hardback in dustwrapper. 165pp including b/w illustrations plus eight colour plates. 10 x 7.5 inches approx. (255mm x 195mm).

Slightly oversize dustwrapper showing wear and a few short tears to edges and corner tips, especially to spine head; some cockling to spine area presumably from being held in the palm of a an eager hand; a little marked and scuffed in places but overall in nice clean condition. Boards and spine nice and clean, just a touch of fading to grey paper covered boards; illustration to front board remains very clean and striking; a name in ink to front paste-down; scattered foxing throughout but mainly to preliminaries and last few pages but generally clean; dustiness and spotting to edges of page-block.

Overall, a nice, well preserved copy and uncommon to find in an equally nice dustwrapper – lovely indeed.
