A nice half morroco binding with attractively themed decoration in gilt to spine and boards. Bound by Zaehnsdorf, London, England – stamped to verso of front free endpaper at lower edge.
Personalised to lower corner of front board (initials and date), with a gift inscription on first blank page by a loving aunt to a Penelope Jane on her fourth birthday.
Hardback – half-leather binding with raised bands on spine; cloth boards; titles and decoration in gilt; marbled endpapers; top edge gilt to page-block. pp  blanks, half-title, frontispiece, title, , 177, , colophon,  blanks, including b/w illustrations. 7.25 x 5 inches approx. (185mm x 125mm).
Light wear and rubbing to binding, occasional light mark or scuff. Inscription in ink to first blank; occasional foxing or mark but pages generally clean throughout; edges of page-block tanned and a little spotted, dusty.
Overall, light wear but otherwise a nice, clean copy – a beautiful binding.
